5:13 Thursday afternoon:

Do you have about 15 minutes to catch up?

Sure, do I need to bring anything?

Nah. Let’s go in here… My boss says a he walks into the small conference room across from my office.

Well there’s good news and bad news. You know, based on that presentation the other day. Well, it concerned Joe enough that he wants to take you off the project… He just needs somebody he feels confident can act as the public face of the group, and I think he really lost a little confidence in your abilities the other day.

Can’t recall what the good news–though I still have a job so I’m sure there was some.  Just remember thinking… you mean that presentation that I thought was supposed to be a conversation to work through some ideas with someone who would have at least received the memo we were supposed to talk about before she walked in the room and told me to Go ahead, tell me what this is all about…?

You mean that presentation? Or the presentation where I thought I was supposed to present to the team the results of that first conversation/presentation and talk about how we would use the same model team-wide? The presentation where I realized too late that not only hadn’t they gotten the materials until minutes before, but that I wasn’t even going to be talking from the memo I’d prepared, and nobody even knew what the memo existed (except of course Jane who I had “presented” it to over lunch)… do you mean that presentation?

Turns out it was the latter.

Yeah, I can understand his concern, I should have made sure I understood exactly what he wanted. But, whatever, I guess that’s part of the point, I should have been able to pull it out, and instead I just kind of crashed and burned.

But, like I said I still have a job.
